Each tool in a project can have participation type settings that are independent of the project visibility settings. For example, If a project is set to have Public visibility, i.e everyone can view the project page, the survey tool can be set to allow only registered participation i.e. only users who have registered on the site can take part in the survey. For more information on Project visibility settings, click here.

Here is a list of all the participation type settings ;

Registered participation - This option only allows users who have registered on the site to make submissions to a tool. If they haven't registered yet, they will be prompted to sign in or register within the tool. Their participant profile details will be recorded against their contribution in the reports. This participation type is available for all tools.

The survey tool has additional participation setting options :

  1. Registered single – By choosing this option, registered participants can make only one contribution to the survey tool. A message to the participants who have previously submitted response is displayed in the display message to participants.

  2. Registered multiple – Selecting this participation type allows registered participants to make multiple contributions to the survey tool.

Unverified Participation - Choosing this option allows unverified participants to make a contribution. They do not have to register on the site, however, will be asked to provide a username and email address. The email and screen name provided will be recorded against their contribution in the reports. This depends from tool to tool. This participation type is available for all tools.

Anonymous/Anyone - Anyone can participate without having to sign in or register on the site. No details are recorded about the user. This participation type is available only for the Survey and the Quick Poll tool.
