Participants and subscribers are added to your newsletter mailing list in various ways. Users are subscribed if they:
Register through or engage with a particular project
Select Subscribe on a Follow Project widget
Are added to a participant group you created
When you create and send a newsletter, you can choose which of these groups the email is sent to. If a participant unsubscribes from newsletters, they are still able to access and engage with your site; they just won’t be on your recipient list anymore, even if they are still part of a participant group.
Unsubscribe from the mailing list
Participants can unsubscribe from the mailing list completely if they choose to, but if they want to receive newsletters again, you will need to resubscribe them. Participants should:
Open the email newsletter they have received.
Select the Unsubscribe link in the footer of the newsletter.
After selecting the link, a page will open in their browser, confirming that they have unsubscribed.
If they unsubscribe using this link and then want to resubscribe, you will need to do it for them.
Resubscribe a participant
Participants may also contact you to resubscribe them to newsletters. Admins cannot subscribe someone without their consent, but if they request that you do so:
Go to Participants and select the participant’s Name to open their profile.
Select Subscribe to newsletters from the Actions dropdown menu.
Select Subscribe in the pop-up warning box.
Unsubscribe as a project follower
Participants can unsubscribe as project followers so that they are no longer subscribed to specific project updates. There are two ways to do this:
Select Unsubscribe on the Follow Project widget they had previously subscribed to. Please note that this means they are no longer included as a project follower for this project; if they have engaged in a tool on that project or are in a participant group, they will still be included in the recipient list.
Select their profile image, go to My Account > Subscriptions, and select Unsubscribe next to every project they want to unsubscribe from. This will unsubscribe them from the project, but they may still be included in your mailing list in a different project, group, or as an active participant. Please note that this option is unavailable for admins.
To resubscribe to this project, participants can navigate to a project page and select Subscribe if you enabled the Follow Project widget.
