The Settings tab of Budget Allocator allows you to customize the elements that are connected to your budget. For example, you can set the text to indicate whether you are on budget, over budget or under budget. You can also hide or show the allocated budget amount.

The following steps describe how to customize the elements of the Settings tab.

1. In the Budget Allocator tool, click on the Settings tab. The Settings page is displayed.

2. Click on the Organization Name text box and enter the name of the organization that is responsible for the budget. The organization name is displayed at the top end of the budget page (unless you upload a logo as described here). 

3. Enter the title of the budget in the Title text field. This title is displayed in the browser’s title bar.

4. Select the Hide Progress Bar checkbox to hide the progress bar along with the spending amount and the budget amount on the preview page. 

5. Click on Text in the Settings page. The following screen is displayed.

a) Click on the Introduction Text text box and enter the introduction text for your budget.

b) Click on the Description text box and enter a description for your budget. You can format the text using the given format tools. The following image displays the introduction text and description in the preview of the budget.

c) Click on the Budget Introduction text box and add the necessary content to introduce your budget. 

This text appears above your first budget item in the preview page.

6. Next, click on Budget Text

a) Click on the Headline Text text box and enter the message that you want to be displayed. This text appears on the right side of your budget page.
b) Click on the Under budget text box and enter the message that you want to be displayed when the participant is under budget.
c) Click on the On budget text box and enter the message that you want to be displayed when the participant is on budget.
d) Click on the Over budget text box and enter the message that you want to be displayed when the participant is over budget.
NOTE: It is recommended to enter only 80 characters in the Headline Text, Under budget, On budget and Over budget text boxes. Entry of extra characters will be trimmed out.

When the participant allocates a budget within the given value, the following preview is displayed.

When the participant allocates a budget equal to the given value, the following preview is displayed.

When the participant’s allocation of budget exceeds the given value, the following preview is displayed.

7. Next, click on Budget Consequences. The following screen is displayed.

a) In the Under budget Consequences, On budget Consequences and Over budget Consequences text boxes, enter the text that you want to be displayed when the budget allocated is under, on and over the set budget value, respectively.

NOTE: It is recommended to enter only 300 characters in the Under budget Consequences, On budget Consequences and Over budget Consequences text boxes. Entry of extra characters will be trimmed out. 

When the cost allocated is under budget, the following preview is displayed.

When the cost allocated is on budget, the following preview is displayed.

When the cost allocated is over budget, the following preview is displayed.

b) In the Budget Formula box, you can construct a formula and display the result in the preview page. Enter the formula in the Budget Formula text box. An example is displayed in the figure below.

NOTE: The formula can be constructed using the following operators and fields.

  • Operators: + , - , *, /, %
  • Fields: [TOTAL_BUDGET] [CURRENT_SPEND] [AMOUNT_OVER_BUDGET]

Add a sentence in any of Budget Consequences textboxes along with the field [FORMULA_RESULT], depending on where you would like the result of the formula to be displayed. For example, as shown in the figure below, the result must be displayed in case of an over budget.

If the participant allocates a budget that is more than the specified value, the message in Over budget Consequences along with the result is displayed in the preview.

8. In the Settings page, click on Custom Text. The following screen is displayed. The messages entered in this section of the Settings page are displayed in budget’s submission page.

  • Click on the Thank you message text box and enter a message.
  • Click on the Additional text text box to enter any additional information.
  • Click on the Comment label text text box and enter a label. This label appears on the comment form of the Budget preview page. Note - The Comment box will always be present and cannot be turned off.
  • Click on the Acknowledgment of submission textbox to enter a message that appears after a user or participant submits the budget.
  • Click on the Confirmation of budget verification text box to enter a message that appears after a user or participant verifies the email.
  • Click the Update button.

You have successfully customized the Settings page of Budget Allocator.
