There are many different ways to create a impressionable design using EngagementHQ. This article highlights the places where you will need to apply your branding and design elements.

Your homepage is the key page for driving participation with your projects and is the place where you create your first impressions. Analysis of online user behaviour shows us that the homepage is the single biggest determining factor influencing participation in projects.

On your homepage, make sure you have a collection of projects with relevant project images, an appropriate colour palette as well as clear and optimised banner images.

To preview the available homepage templates visit the Site Management >Theme section of your site and click on the arrow which appears when you hover over the Themes icon to preview the themes.

Select the template that will allow you to best achieve your project goals based on the design elements incorporated in each template. To understand these better, check out our Understanding EHQ Templates resource to help you make your decision.

Project Images

Project images should be applied to every new project. These images are used by EHQ as the featured images which appear on the homepage of your site. 

This is one of your main places to apply your project branding.

When you link a project to your homepage using the homepage editor, the homepage will automatically look for the project image associated with that project.

You should decided whether you want these project images to be of people and places, utilise graphics or use text and iconography. These images should always be squares 750px x 750px.

To make sure you have attached project images to each project simply select your project from the Projects list and select the relevant project. 

In the project page click on Settings > Image. Use the image browser to location an image on your computer and upload it as the featured image.

Banner images are a great way to influence the design of your site. When using banner images (Torquay and Bondi only) on your homepage you will need to decide on a banner size. This banner will need to be 1440px wide and can be any height you choose. 

We recommend making banners on your homepage at least 300px in height to create a good impact and save screen real estate for your projects and other information. Read about best image sizes in EHQ here.

Banner images are applied in several different places.

Site Banner

The site banner is uploaded in the Site Management>Theme>Images section of your site.

This is your default banner for the site and will automatically be applied to all projects pages by default.

Project Page Banner

Project page banners can be changed directly on the project pages. If you have applied a site banner than this will show up as the default project page banner.

To override the project page banner or to add a new one, simply click on Edit Banner on top of the banner image to browse for a new banner.

It's best practice to keep these banner dimensions consistent across your site. 

Homepage Banner

As well as your site banner, you can also upload a homepage banner directly into the Theme Builder on themes such as Bondi, and Torquay.

Simply visit the Site Management > Homepage Manager section of your site and click on the banner field shown on the homepage wireframe.

Hub Page Banner

Hub page banners are available via the Hub Page editor in EHQ. Only some sites have access to this functionality.

Below is an example of a Hub Page displaying a banner image.

Hub page banners should speak directly to the theme or collection of projects that make up the hub.

Colours and Fonts

The next place to apply your design elements in the Colours and Fonts section of your site.

To access Colours and Fonts, simply go to your admin section and click on Site Management >Theme > Colours and Fonts.

From here you can apply your brand colours to the primary colours section and adjust your title and content fonts for your site.

By using these simple branding devices you should be able to put together a site which reflects your community as well as your branding guidelines.
