EngagementHQ offers an integration with MailChimp which allows you to sync segments and use your regular MailChimp account to send emails to your EngagementHQ community.
To setup the integration, follow these steps.
On your Mailchimp account, create a new empty audience list.
Once the above is done, navigate into our Marketplace and find the MailChimp integration under Emails & SMS.
Click Edit Settings, the blue button on the top right. This will open up a drawer in which you can configure the integration.
Go to MailChimp Integration > enter your MailChimp API Key and the audience ID of the empty list in the respective fields.
Once the API key and list ID have been added, go to Sync Participant group tap > select Groups to sync > and click Save. Clicking save on this screen will manually sync your audience.
You should now go to your Mailchimp account and refresh the MailChimp audience and the participants should be syncing with your audience.
If you are required to periodically update your API Keys, simply repeat the steps above to enter in a new key. We may ask this of you periodically to help enhance security. You will need to ensure you are using a new empty audience if required to re-sync your list after a key rotation. As some participants may have unsubscribed from your Mailchimp audience, it is advised that you download your original audience list and then upload that list into your newly sync'd audience in order to update the subscriber status of unsubscribed participants.
After the integration has been established your MailChimp account will contain your mailing list with your participants and might look like below.
The groups created in EngagementHQ will be synched as tags in your Mailchimp account. The sync happens once a day (around midnight) or when triggered manually.
All your activated participants and subscribers are synched from EngagementHQ to MailChimp.
This means that participants that have a pending activation will not be synced and may explain the difference you see in your MailChimp list and your EngagementHQ participant count.
Important
When a participant unsubscribes from an EngagementHQ newsletter, they will be unsubscribed only from the EngagementHQ newsletter. If they would like to unsubscribe from Mailchimp, they will have to do so via Mailchimp emails.
To remove the unsubscribed participants from the newly created audience list, you can export the unsubscribed list from the original Mail Chimp Audience and then simply import that list to the newly created audience list that is synched with your EngagementHQ site. You should select status as unsubscribed while importing the list.
MailChimp integration is not offered as part of all EngagementHQ licenses. If you are interested in the integration and don't have access, please contact us via chat or email at support@engagementhq.com.
